SUMMARY

This 1969 Ford F-100 is a reference-level example of Delmo Speed’s philosophy at its purest: restrained, factory-correct aesthetics paired with uncompromising modern engineering. It is not a fashion-led restomod, but a carefully proportioned, deeply engineered truck built to feel inevitable, as if Ford might have made it this way had today’s technology existed in 1969.

Delmo has earned his reputation over decades as one of the most thoughtful builders in the vintage Ford and 4x4 space. Known for doing fewer projects and doing them properly, his move to Prescott, Arizona marked a deliberate narrowing of focus toward classic trucks and period-correct 4x4 builds. Since then, Delmo Speed’s output has become increasingly selective, with long wait times and a build cost today that far exceeds what was required when this F-100 was commissioned. As a result, completed trucks of this caliber rarely change hands.

One of the defining elements of this build is Delmo’s signature mid-length wheelbase configuration, executed here with a custom 7-foot bed. This is not a cosmetic alteration but a complete re-proportioning of the truck, including shortening the factory side storage box, reworking trim, and refining every transition so the result looks entirely natural. The stance is improved, the visual mass is better balanced, and the truck gains real usability without sacrificing its vintage character.

Beneath the bodywork sits a Roadster Shop RS4 chassis, providing modern rigidity and road manners while remaining visually discreet. Power comes from a 525-horsepower LS3 paired with a 4L80E automatic transmission and an Atlas two-speed transfer case, delivering effortless performance on the road and genuine capability off it. Dana 60 rear and Dana 44 front axles provide strength and durability, while 13-inch custom Baer brakes and a Bosch iBooster master cylinder ensure braking performance that matches the drivetrain’s output.

Delmo’s OEM+ approach is perhaps most evident in the details. The custom Delmo billet wheels sit perfectly under the arches, wrapped in 35-inch Toyo tires. Inside, the billet steering wheel serves as a focal point—modern in execution, but entirely in keeping with the overall aesthetic.

Modern conveniences are seamlessly integrated, including air conditioning, a custom sound system, backup camera, hideaway steps, and a soft-open tailgate. Each feature enhances usability while remaining visually discreet, preserving the integrity of the original design.

Finished in Harbor Blue over Wimbledon White, the truck presents exactly as intended: timeless, confident, and instantly legible as a properly executed vintage Ford.

To replicate this truck today with Delmo Speed would require a multi-year wait and a significantly higher investment, with no guarantee of securing a build slot at all. This F-100 is a rare opportunity and stands as a fully realized example of Delmo Speed’s work at a level that is increasingly difficult to commission.
